WALK THE WALK: VENICE BLVD. BETWEEN INGLEWOOD BLVD AND BEETHOVEN STREET!
Thursday, June 1, 2017, 6-10 pm
The theme of the latest Mar Vista Art Walk (MVAW), now in its second year, is THE ART OF THE GAME. Coinciding with the first game of the NBA Finals, MVAW decided to go for it and join in the fun. Featuring a campfire Art Battle (4 artists/1 theme) judged by DJ Neff, Mitchelito Orquiola and Art Seen’s Leonardo Ledesma, a Battle of the Bands at Alan’s Coffee Roaster with popular local indie bands Puscie Jones Revue, Earth Arrow, and Millwood, this MVAW will also include a live blacksmith and forge at Full Circle Pottery, a Block Party! from Inglewood Blvd – Grand View Blvd hosted by Rising Sons Independent, a Rap Battle at Buckwild Gallery, a gong Sound Bath at The Moving Joint, a vintage electric car and parade of vintage campers, as well as the usual live painting, and art vendors. And if you’re still jonesing for game scores you won’t miss a thing. There will be big screens projecting the NBA Finals at Louie’s of Mar Vista, the Grand View Market and more.
The Mar Vista Venice Blvd. Great Street Pilot Project is scheduled for completion by the June 1 Art Walk. Four new mid-block crosswalks will make it easier to cross Venice Blvd. Bring your bike! As part of the Venice Blvd. Great Street Pilot Project, there are now protected bike lanes from Beethoven to Inglewood. Drivers: please be aware that traffic striping on Venice has changed - taking traffic down from 6 lanes to 4 and swapping street parking with the bike lane - and drive with extra care. Click here for more information about the Venice Blvd. changes.
WHAT ELSE WILL YOU SEE?
Here’s what street blog barrio.la had to say about the MVAW: “Not all events are actually as fun as their pictures make them out to be, but that’s not the case with the Mar Vista Art Walk!”
