6th Annual Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase
The Mar Vista Community Council welcomes Los Angeles area residents, gardening friends, and sustainability enthusiasts, to participate in the FREE sixth annual Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase—a citywide Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 26th, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s showcase will be a smaller, more intimatetour than in the past and includes exciting Earth Day events at participating school gardens! Visit Showcase Central the day of the tour for maps and information at Grand View Elementary, 3951 Grand View Boulevard, LA, CA 90066.
The 2014 Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase will have six walkable/bike-able sustainable garden clusters. On the heels of five wildly successful prior tours that topped 2,000 attendees last year, the Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase features self-guided tours to address sustainability in daily living, with special guest presenters at many gardens. It’s also a great opportunity to meet do-it-yourself gardeners who share their knowledge and experience.
Guests can choose to personalize their tours using convenient tags identifying garden styles and sustainability topics. Participants will have intimate views of drought-resistant and native landscapes as well as edible gardens. Sustainability features on the tour include composting, water capture practices, and California native gardens. The tour places special emphasis on the critical need for ocean friendly gardens and habitats that support much needed pollinators such as honey bees and monarch butterflies.
The Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase seeks to empower Angelenos to adopt environmentally conscious living solutions. With most people walking or biking their tours, there is a tremendous sense of community as residents throughout Southern California come to Mar Vista to celebrate our shared vision for a greener life.
Guest presenters on the tour include Treepeople, HoneyLove.org, Surfrider Ocean Friendly Gardens, Los Angeles County Master Gardeners, RePowerLA, The Seed Library of Los Angeles, Ballona Institute, Transition Mar Vista/Venice, Arts Earth Partnership & the Sunset Succulent Society. Landscape designers and service providers will also be at gardens to answer questions and share information.
Mar Vista can make a difference!
