If you're thinking of adding a pet, now is the time!

November Reduced Adoption Fee Weekends

LA Animal Services will offer reduced adoption fees for the weekends in November to help the pets in our six Centers to find loving homes. Like many shelters across the country, the Department is facing high intake numbers of cats and dogs, with medium- and large-sized dogs making up the majority of the pet population. To encourage animal lovers to adopt, LA Animal Services invites you to meet your new canine buddy or feline friend at one of our special adoption weekend events happening in November.

Reduced Adoption Fees:

Nov. 16-17; Stray Paws Adoption Event

Nov.  23–24: Bring Home a Furry Friend

Nov 30-Dec.1: It’s a Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend

Reduced adoption fees for dogs, $51 (that does not include $20 license fee for LA City residents); puppies, $75, cats, $12.50; and kittens, $25.

Furry friends adopted from LA Animal Services join their new families already spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adopters also receive a Petco flyer with discounts to help make their pet adoption a success and a VCA Healthy Start Certificate, which provides up to $250 of follow up veterinary care within the first 14 days of adoption, and for a limited time a free dog or cat bed thanks to a donation from Chewy and Greater Good Charities. In addition, dogs are also eligible for free dog training classes with Paws for Life K9 Rescue at their People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills, CA. Contact info@pawsforlifecanine.org for more details.

If you can't adopt, consider fostering a pet. When you foster a canine buddy or feline friend, you not just save the life of that animal, but also free up a space for another dog or cat in need. Click on the links to view canine buddies and feline friends available for adoption or fostering.

Santa Monica Airport Conversion Project

Santa Monica Airport Conversion Project

Santa Monica Airport Conversion Project
The Santa Monica Airport Conversion Project is a once-in-a-lifetime planning effort for Santa Monica to create a preferred scenario centered on a great park, consistent with Measure LC. The future scenario will enhance connections to the rest of the city, create a quality public realm and increase the quality of life for residents, workers, and visitors of Santa Monica. The public process for this project is consistent with past City Council direction to establish a plan for future use of the land, and to address the community’s interest in the creation of parks, recreation, cultural, and educational amenities and to address community goals and priorities as they relate to current and future generations. To understand the legal frameworks and history, please visit the City of Santa Monica's Project Website.

Virtual Education Session #3 explores the Santa Monica Airport site and context in more depth, highlighting constraints and opportunities to potential future conversion. Opportunities are discussed through the overarching objective of achieving a sustainable conversion to new public-serving uses. Sustainability is explored through the lenses of environmental, energy, and water resilience, economic self-sufficiency, and social equity. Sustainability strategies are explained and a review of select case studies helps to describe the opportunity to leverage similar strategies on the Santa Monica Airport site.
